Mythic LA

If we begin with the intention to discover the Ur-phenomena of Los Angeles and generate a set of Konvolutes specific to it (but during what period?) there are two methods that immediately present themselves:

1. Translate Benjamin’s Konvolutes for Paris to a set for Los Angeles.  This is what we’ve done at the final meeting of the Arcades Project reading group and the (very) tentative proposals are listed to the right.

2. Begin from nothing but intuition and experience.  Perhaps Los Angeles has Ur-phenomena that aren’t translations from Paris - some of these might be Disney, organic food, taco trucks, boosterism, Pepperdine University, natural catastrophe, Joan Didion. 

This would be a good place to argue about the translations (1) and make new proposals (2) on the way to the outline of a speculative book about Mythic LA.
